外国に住み、踊り、教え、外国語を学ぶアーティストとしての自身の人生経験を元に魅力を感じているテーマである相互のつながりを探求するため、ジュリーは様々な媒体を使用してきた。繋がりの概念にあるシンプルさを通じて伝わる複雑性を研究するため、彼女は木版画を使う。自然界にあるオーガニックな形状や光、パターンにインスピレーションを受け、墨を取り入れた作品を通してこれらのアイデアを探求している。

Julie has used a variety of media to explore interconnectedness, a theme she is drawn to based on her life experiences as an artist living abroad, dancing, teaching and learning foreign languages. She has used Mokuhanga to investigate complexity communicated through simplicity on the concept of connection. She is inspired by organic forms, light and patterns in nature and has explored these ideas through her work using Sumi. “Moments of feeling fully connected and present are fleeting, temporary experiences. My work is an attempt to capture and document these ephemeral experiences.” Her art has sought to capture what to her is most essential; simplicity, rhythmic movement, and a dynamic sense of energy. Julie has felt a growing influence of nature in her art. Her works using Mokuhanga and Sumi have referenced the natural world in their essence and indeed Julie’s connection to nature acted as an impetus for their creation in her search for harmony and balance. Currently, Julie’s work centers on an in-depth examination of her passion for the natural world, involving keen observation and documentation of the patterns and forms to which she is continually drawn.
